In Stoke-on-Trent, we're embracing an international scheme called School Streets.

This scheme aims to transform the areas around schools into pedestrian and cyclist-friendly zones during peak school hours (start and end of the school day).

By prioritising walkers, cyclists, and scooter riders, we're tackling traffic congestion and improving air quality at the school gates. This road safety initiative will create a more pleasant environment.

We are proposing to implement the scheme from Monday 6 January 2025 at the locations located in the table further down this page.

How it works

During specific times in the morning and afternoon, selected streets near schools will be temporarily closed to vehicles and become a pedestrian and cycle zone.

While vehicles are restricted, essential exemptions are in place for those who need them. For more information on eligibility and the application process, please visit our Exemptions FAQs section.

Clear signage will alert drivers to the restrictions at the entrances to selected schools. Additionally, CCTV will be in place in these locations, and entering a School Street during restricted times can result in a penalty charge.

Together, we can create a healthier, happier, and more sustainable environment for everyone in our community.
