Stoke-on-Trent City Council tenants are reminded that if they have a clear rent account they are entitled to two rent-free weeks over Christmas.
The rent-free period will run from the week starting 20 December and again from the week starting 27 December 2021.
Many tenants without a debt, continue to pay through these weeks to start the new calendar year off right and build a buffer on their rent accounts. Tenants who are in arrears are advised that they must continue to make payments to reduce their debt on these weeks. Payments can be made online via www.stoke.gov.uk or via the 24-hour payment line 01782 234123.
Councillor Carl Edwards, cabinet member for housing and environment, said: “Tenants have their rent calculated over 48 weeks of the year, rather than 52, meaning there are four rent clear weeks with two of these coming in December. Tenants with a clear rent account can take the advantage of these weeks and for those people who do owe rent, the rent-free weeks are the ideal opportunity to reduce their debt.
“We have teams ready to help anyone who is struggling with their rent payments. The income advice team has identified more than £870,000 of additional income for tenants already this financial year on top of the £1 million secured last year, which is absolutely fantastic. Direct debit is a simple and safe way to pay rent and we continue to increase the number of tenants who choose this option, with a £200 High Street voucher prize draw taking place on a quarterly basis for direct debit payers.”
