The political make-up of the city council has changed today (Wednesday).

Councillor Candi Chetwynd has resigned from the Labour group to become an independent councillor.

Councillor Chetwynd has served as the elected member for the Ford Green and Smallthorne ward of Stoke-on-Trent since 2015.

There are 44 seats on the city council. The authority is now made up of 19 Conservative, 13 Labour, six City Independents and five independent councillors. There is one vacancy, and a by-election will take place for this seat – representing the Moorcroft ward – on 6 May.
