A campaign to support residents across the city live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives has been launched in time for the school holidays.
The ‘Get Active’ campaign encourages people to become more active and take a step in the right direction when it comes to their physical health and wellbeing.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been working with partners and communities to provide a calendar of activities and events happening throughout the city which makes it easy for residents to take a step in the right direction and get active.
The council wants to help people get out and about and enjoy doing activities. Visitors to stoke.gov.uk/getactive can now check out events and activities for all ages in one place.
The webpage has information on council-run leisure activities and the Active You programme which puts people’s health and wellbeing at the heart of the service, as well as free community-led events.
This weekend (Saturday 20 July, 4pm to 6pm) residents can take part in a family fun tennis session held at Hanley Park. This is free to attend for all ages and abilities and equipment will be provided.
Councillor Lynn Watkins, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “Week in, week out, there are so many opportunities for residents to be more active in our great city. The challenge is finding something easily and quickly that you want to do with friends, family or on your own.
“Our new calendar will be kept up to date with anything being run by us, our partners and local communities. It’s a one-stop shop for discovering new things to improve your health and wellbeing with many of the events free or low-cost to stop money being a barrier to being active.
“Taking part in activities and events is good for your body and mind. A simple walk in the park could help you to get out and about and meet new friends.
“If you’re involved in anything that helps residents take a step in the right direction and get active, please let us know; https://www.stoke.gov.uk/event/new.”
