Changes to council’s cabinet announced

Published: Thursday, 16th May 2024

Changes have been announced to the make-up of Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s cabinet.

Council leader, Councillor Jane Ashworth OBE, has announced that the authority’s elected executive team will now feature ten members to reflect the priorities in the council’s new corporate strategy Our City, Our Wellbeing.

As well as leading the council, Councillor Ashworth will continue to be responsible for strategy, economic development, culture and sport. Deputy leader, Councillor Amjid Wazir OBE, will remain the cabinet member for city pride, enforcement and a new responsibility for sustainability.

Previous cabinet support members, Councillor Sarah-Jane Colclough and councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker will now be cabinet members, with Councillor Colclough taking on the education and anti-poverty briefs and Councillor Gordon-McCusker responsible for transport, infrastructure and regeneration.

Councillor Ashworth said: “My first year as leader has seen many challenges but also many successes.

“The cabinet is a team, and like a good team, it’s important that we make sure everyone is in the right place on the field. The changes reflect the interests and skills of cabinet leads and our priorities identified in the corporate strategy.

“We will continue to work hard for the good of the city and residents, to lead with care and kindness, and to support our businesses and economy to thrive.”
