New Lord Mayor appointed

The 98th Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent has officially been appointed.

Councillor Lyn Sharpe has been sworn in as the new Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent at the annual council meeting this morning.

Councillor Sharpe is the ward councillor for Fenton West and Mount Pleasant, the ward she has lived in all her life.

Councillor Sharpe said: “This will be extra special as we are heading towards our centenary year in 2025. We are planning so many wonderful events that acknowledge our proud past at the same time looking towards our future as a great city. I am excited and acknowledge it’s going to be a busy but demanding year and I am ready for the challenge.

“If you see me about, come and say hello duck and shout about our historic six towns!”.

Councillor Sharpe will raise money for Emmaus North Staffs who support over 800 households with essential furniture and appliances and Period Power which provide free access to period products.

Born in Fenton in 1961 she is a fourth generation Fentonian. At 18, she started her employment with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, completing 40 years unbroken service in mostly residential children’s services before taking early retirement in 2019.

She is actively involved in her community and volunteers at the Foodbank. She also supports Fenton Town Hall and the arts at RESTOKE and was recently involved with “The Odyssey” project in conjunction with the National Theatre.

During her time as Lord Mayor her consort will be her husband, Kevin Sharpe.

Councillor Steve Watkins, who represents Abbey Hulton, has been appointed Deputy Lord Mayor for the year ahead.
