Runners and walkers can now sign up for this year’s Hanley Economic Potters ’Arf Marathon.
The eagerly anticipated iconic half marathon is back. On Sunday, September 29, 2024, the city will once again play host to the celebrated event, which promises an inclusive atmosphere and challenges to suit participants across a wide range of abilities and ages.
The traditional 13.1-mile race is the centrepiece of the day, inviting seasoned runners to confront and conquer the challenging ‘Heartbreak Hill’. This formidable section of the course has become a rite of passage for many in the running community and beckons those who are eager to test their limits.
Understanding that not everyone is up for the full distance in a single go, there is also an option to walk, or team up with friends, family or colleagues for a walking relay. Teams of four can split the journey, turning it into a social event that still accomplishes the course but at a more leisurely pace.
Businesses and groups looking for an engaging team-building activity are encouraged to participate in the half marathon relay. With two to four members per team, the relay race is not only a chance to foster camaraderie but also an opportunity to challenge competing organisations in a bit of friendly rivalry.
Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “The Potters ‘Arf marathon is something I know the people of Stoke-on-Trent look forward to every year, it is one of the most unique, community-spirited races in the UK.
