Libraries across Stoke-on-Trent are set to benefit after Stoke-on-Trent City Council secured £300,000 of funding.
A successful application to the Arts Council England Libraries Improvement Fund, will be used to improve digital infrastructure and physical spaces across all six Stoke-on-Trent libraries.
The first project that will benefit from this funding, includes the installation of self-release printing on four library sites plus WiFi printing in all six libraries.
A second project is also planned, which will modernise Stoke and Longton libraries, making them flexible community spaces for various groups and customers.
Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health said:
“We are delighted to have secured £300,000 from the Arts Council England Libraries Improvement Fund, which will help enormously in transforming our library services.
“Access to IT facilities, printing and scanning continues to be important to our library members and has only increased since the pandemic.
“By installing this software, it will make access to printing for customers quicker and easier and further improve the digital access for all communities.
“We also want to continue to create spaces that can be used for diverse purposes and expand our exciting range of activities and events, especially for families and children, whilst continuing to provide access to books, information, PCs plus vital support for the local communities across Stoke-on-Trent.
“The news of the new funding comes 12 months after we launched our new library strategy, and this funding will help us to continue to deliver our aims and priorities.”
