Transport Strategy and Delivery Plan moving in the right direction

Residents were asked to have their say on the Transport Strategy Consultation recently, and an impressive turnout resulted in over 1000 voices being heard.

Key proposals included; Route to Net Zero, with 90% of respondents in agreement; Active Travel, 88% in agreement; Bus Network Improvement, 89% in agreement; Rail improvements at 80% agreement; Very Light Rail, with 82% in favour.

Other proposals, all receiving 76% and above were; Transport Hubs, Road Network Improvements, and Freight Transport Enhancements.

Councillor Daniel Jellyman, cabinet member for infrastructure, regeneration, and heritage said: “This is an amazing turnout for any consultation, even more so that we had such positive feedback on the proposals. This has been one of the biggest consultation feedbacks the council has ever had, it shows a great level of public support.

“The real work begins now, as we look to put into place the much-needed improvements to our transport infrastructure.

“We are geographically well placed, and the strategy is designed to support the economic growth of the city, improve the ease of movement around the city and support an improvement in the environment for not just businesses but for residents.”

Key elements of the Draft Transport Strategy and Delivery Plan will focus on these aims, which evidence that the city council has a clear vision for the development of travel connectivity both within the city and the city’s connectivity to the rest of the country and the production of a clear ten-year delivery programme that will assist other council strategies such as the emerging Local Plan, and focus priorities in terms of scheme development and funding bids, plus the Levelling Up of travel in the city with equal accessibility for all.
