Residents out in force to support our key workers

Stoke-on-Trent City Council refuse collectors have been overwhelmed with support during this week’s heat wave.

Temperatures reached an unprecedented 36.1 degrees Celsius across the city this week and our outdoor teams braved the weather, with services starting earlier.

Our refuse collectors were kept hydrated with kind residents providing water and ice creams while they were on duty.

Councillor Carl Edwards, cabinet member for environment and housing “Thank you to all of the residents who helped keep our teams cool during the heatwave. The refuse collectors are part of our critical front-line team who help keep the city moving.  Residents in Stoke-on-Trent make me extremely proud to represent our city and the community spirit and support has been lovely”

Last week, Stoke-on-Trent City Council agreed a change to bin collections to support working conditions for refuse collectors during the very hot weather.
