Welfare of refuse collectors

Published: Friday, 15th July 2022

Stoke-on-Trent City Council have together agreed a change to bin collections to support working conditions for refuse collectors during upcoming very hot weather.

With record temperatures affecting the country, we are keen to ensure drivers and refuse collectors are as weather safe as possible.

From Monday 18 July, bin collections will start at the earlier time of 0600hours, to reflect the cooler temperatures at the start of the day. It is expected this change will stay in place during current heatwave forecasts.

Council leader Abu Brown said: “The welfare of all of our workers is the main priority for the City Council. The refuse collectors are part of our critical front line team who help keep the City moving and ensuring the safety during adverse weather conditions and a change to working patterns and conditions is eminently sensible.”

“Bin collection days will remain in place, we just ask that your bins are presented at their collection points by 6am on the day of collection until further notice.”
