Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) scheme
We're making it easier for residents to switch to electric vehicles (EVs) thanks to funding from the Department for Transport's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) scheme. This funding will support the installation of new public EV charging points across Stoke-on-Trent, focusing on residential areas where off-street parking is limited.
LEVI Pilot Project
Our pilot project will deliver up to 50 new public charging points (providing 100 charging sockets) across the city between spring 2025 and summer 2026. We've partnered with Gamma Energy for the installation, operation, and maintenance of these charging points at various on-street and car park locations. The customer-facing app and charging infrastructure will be known as "Wenea."
The project aims to install a mix of standard/overnight (7kW), fast (47kW), and rapid (120kW) chargers. All chargers will offer two charging sockets.
Where will the chargers be located?
We've carefully selected locations in residential areas that currently lack electric vehicle charging infrastructure and have limited off-street parking. This is crucial to ensure everyone has the opportunity to own and use an EV, not just those with driveways. By providing charging options for properties without off-street parking, we're addressing the equity challenge and encouraging wider electric vehicle adoption across the city.
The new charging points will be located in a mix of on-street and car park locations and will offer a range of charging speeds:
- Standard (6-7 hours): Ideal for overnight charging at home.
- Fast (2-3 hours): Suitable for shorter stays.
- Rapid (under 1 hour): Perfect for quick top-ups while visiting town centres or other destinations with higher parking turnover.
The table below lists the proposed locations for installing electric vehicle charging points through the LEVI pilot site. There is flexibility when confirming the precise location of each electric vehicle charging point installation, which could be subject to change, depending on the outcome of detailed site analysis relating to grid connectivity costs.
