Residential Parking Schemes

What is a Residential Parking Scheme?

A Residential Parking Area is a designated zone where only permit holders can park. These areas are marked with specific bays. Typically, only residents, their visitors, and local businesses are eligible for permits.

When is it in operation?

Most schemes operate Monday to Saturday, 8am to 9pm. However, some may include Sundays, depending on local needs.

Who can use the parking areas?

Only residents within the zone can apply for permits. These permits are not specific to a particular space and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors can purchase permits to park at your property.

Costs and Entitlements

  • One-off Joining Fee: A fee (ranging from £15-£70) is payable per household to initiate the scheme.
  • Resident Permits: Up to two permits can be applied for per household, costing £38.50 each.
  • Visitor Permits: Up to two permits can be applied for per household, costing £38.50 each. Senior citizens can apply for one free visitor permit.
  • Business Permits: Businesses can apply for up to four permits, costing £38.50 each.
  • Tradesperson/Contractor Permits: These can be obtained from the city council for £16.50 per week.

Enforcement

Our Parking Services enforces the scheme. Vehicles parked without a valid permit during operating hours are liable for a £70 fine.

What happens next?

If there's sufficient support (usually 50% of properties) and contributions cover the costs, a scheme can be implemented. The minimum contribution for a small scheme is typically £2,000-£3,000. If contributions are insufficient, you may need to seek additional funding from local elected members.

Please note: Specific details and costs may vary.
