Exemption FAQ's
Are there any exemptions to which vehicles can enter the School Street during operational times?
People walking, scooting, using wheelchairs, mobility scooters and cycles (including adapted cycles) are not restricted. All other motor vehicles are restricted during the operating times displayed on the signs, subject to some exemptions.
Though we encourage everyone to support the School Street sceheme, where they are able, the following vehicles serving properties within the School Street zone will be automatically exempt and will not be required to apply for an exemption:
- Emergency Vehicles
- Council waste collections
- Council road maintenance vehicles
- Royal Mail postal vehicles
- Local bus services
Am I eligible for an exemption?
Vehicles that are registered to a residential or business address within a School Streets zone are eligible for exemption from that School Street zone.
Vehicles that are not eligible
Vehicles driven by residents living outside of a School Streets zone, parents/carers dropping off and collecting children at the school, school staff, friends, tradespeople, delivery vehicles and any other non-exempt vehicle may receive a penalty charge if entering the School Streets during the operational times.
We will consider granting special exemptions on a case by case basis.
Do I need to apply for an exemption?
- If you live within the School Streets zone and the vehicle is registered to that address.
