About us…
Stoke on Trent City Council’s Learn4Work team is a training provider, delivering work-based training skills to support individuals in successfully gaining an apprenticeship, employment or progressing on to further education or training.
How can we support…
- Initial assessment will identify your starting point so we can design a programme tailored for you.
- Qualifications to support your progression into work.
- Focus on work-related skills and experience required by all employers.
- Support with building and developing confidence in maths and English.
- Specialist tutors to support you every step of the way.
The Apprenticeship Academy study programme aims to benefit learners by offering a wide range of opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and experience and support progression onto employment and apprenticeships, including opportunities within the Council, or further education/ training opportunities if preferred.
Participants will be provided with an appropriate, quality work placement, matched to career goals and aspirations, either within one of the many departments of the council or with an alternate employer, which will provide 2-3 days per week in a workplace environment, using the skills and knowledge learned in work preparation classes, and gaining the confidence, contacts and valuable experience needed to enter employment. This 26 week programme will be adapted to meet individual needs and support chosen progression options.
We have placements in Business Admin, Customer Service, Digital Marketing/ Social Media, Finance, Data, Warehouse, Retail, Hairdressing, Childcare, Parks and Gardens and many more, and we can find the right option for each learner.
The weekly work preparation and skills sessions at our Tunstall centre will cover subjects such as Careers, Communication, Confidence Building, Health & Wellbeing and Teamwork & Leadership - building the skills, knowledge and independence needed for the workplace and also includes training relevant to career goals and work environments in general, such as First Aid at Work, giving the best chance to secure employment. We also cover general life skills such as budgeting and water safety to promote independence. Functional skills maths and English will be provided for anyone who hasn’t achieved grade 4 or above. There is a weekly bursary payment and travel allowance, paid directly into your bank account.
