Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Delivery Programme

In March 2022, the government published its Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy which contained an obligation on local authorities to develop and implement local charging strategies.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council are committed to supporting our residents, businesses, and visitors in the switch to electric vehicles and the Council is drafting an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy to support the delivery of electric vehicle charging points across the city.

The aim of the strategy is to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles, by significantly increasing access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the city by 2030, in line with national policies to phase out the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030. Priority will be given to residential areas, particularly areas with limited off-street parking for charging electric vehicles.

Delivery Programme

The delivery programme for implementing this strategy is summarised in the table below, and contains a programme of projects, actions and delivery targets for increasing accessibility to a variety of EV charging infrastructure provisions across Stoke-on-Trent over the next five years, to 2030. The delivery plan will be a live document, updated annually to reflect progress and review delivery plan targets.

An indicative funding allocation of £3 million has been secured to deliver Stoke-on-Trent’s EV Infrastructure Programme, via the Department of Transport’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund.
