We have been approached by the Department for Transport as councils outside of London can now apply to by given the powers to enforce a full range of moving traffic offences under Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act.
As we already enforce bus lanes (using CCTV devices), these potential additional powers will include:
- enforcing pedestrian zones
- box junctions
- exceeding vehicle weight restrictions
- banned turns
- one ways
- no entries
- no U-turns
Have your say
The first area we are proposing to use these additional powers is Turner Street, Birches Head, at the entrance to Grove Academy. Details of the proposals can be found in the consultation letter by clicking the link below:

Your views are important to us. We welcome your feedback on the intended adoption of these powers to supplement existing police powers. If adopted the city council will look to target problem locations to promote road safety, increase network efficiency and contribute to reduced emissions.
You can provide your comments by emailing movingtraffic@stoke.gov.uk.
The consultation will run until 25 January 2023.
Please note: Post consultation, we will consider all representations received and then Stoke-on-Trent City Council will formally decide whether to apply for designation of those powers by the Secretary of State in due course.
