Our Housing Strategy and Older Person’s Housing Strategy identify our ambitions to develop new high-quality homes for residents of the city.

Early this year, demolition of the former sheltered housing scheme at Doris Robinson Court, off Viscount Walk in Meir, was completed after the site was deemed no longer fit for purpose.

We have been working on some initial plans for the redevelopment of this site and we now want residents’ views on the plans.

The proposals

The current proposals include a new build apartment block of 46 homes, which will mainly be for older people. The homes will be a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, with each apartment designed to create independent living with the option for support if required.

The apartments have an open plan kitchen / living area, an accessible shower room, storage and access to shared amenity space. The proposals see the expansion of the existing public parking area providing a total of 32 parking spaces, four of which are accessible spaces.

The council is also hosting a drop-in session on Tuesday 10 September for anyone who wants to learn more about the plans and ask questions. The drop-in session will take place at the Meir Community Education Centre and Library, in Pickford Place, Meir, between 2pm and 6.30pm.

Residents have until Thursday 19 September to submit their feedback.
