Gladstone Pottery Museum is hosting an exclusive Diwali event on Friday 28 October, with storytelling, clay lamp making, and Rangoli activities available to museum visitors.

Diwali Diya Making Workshop Learn about Diwali and make your own traditional clay terracotta or a colourful lamp, perfect home decor or a little gift for Diwali or Christmas! Workshops at 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Suitable for age 6+. Free with museum admission, please book in advance by calling 01782 237777 or emailing MuseumEvents@stoke.gov.uk Diwali Storytelling Enjoy ‘Ma Ma's Sari’ an interactive storytelling performance about a young girl when she eyes her mother's suitcase full of gorgeous saris, she decides that she, too, should wear one, even though she is too young for such clothing. When the mother finally realizes how important it is for her little girl to feel like a big girl on her seventh birthday, she dresses up her daughter. Mama's Saris captures an elegant snapshot of every girl's wish to play dress up. This beautiful story will be reimagined and is told through drama, gestures and props and at the end children can dress up and ask questions. 11am – 12.30pm. Suitable for age 5 -10. Rangoli is an ancient art form originating in the Indian subcontinent, in which symmetrical patterns are created on the floor usually at the entrance of a home during Diwali using materials, such as flowers, coloured sand, rice and pulses, to welcome goddess of wealth and good luck. It represents happiness, positivity and liveliness of a household. Workshops at 2pm and 3pm. Suitable age 6+.
