The data will be used for processing requests for information made under the Data Protection Act 2018/General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679), Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015.
We are able to do this because the laws above place a requirement on the city council for these services to be provided.
We are also required by data protection law to hold and use some of your information for the purposes of investigating data protection concerns and information security incidents.
Your information may be disclosed to a third party (such as police, HMRC, Border Force UK, National Crime Agency, other local authorities, solicitors and the courts) when the law allows us to do so.
We have a duty to protect public funds so may use the information we have for the prevention and detection of fraud. We may share this information with other bodies for these purposes.We may share data with our internal audit team to evaluate the effectiveness of the organisation’s risk management, control and governance processes. We may also share your data with the council's fraud team to help to prevent and detect fraud.
We may also share data with other teams within the council where this is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, including legal claims made against or by the council..
Data protection law provides you with certain rights, but not all of these rights will be available to you in all situations.
