School Closures

Please visit your child's school website for the most up-to-date information on whether your child's school is shut.

For school closures due to extreme weather or other emergencies, we have introduced an online notification process which will allow parents and carers access to real-time updates on the status of a school.

This information can be viewed by clicking the following link:
Real-time Updates

The decision to close a school is based on:

  • local management;
  • conditions at the school; and
  • the health and safety of staff and pupils.

If a school has to close, information will be made available to parents/carers through the school’s normal communications channels (including the school website) and radio stations.

Schools affected by strike action on 1 October

A number of schools will be affected by strike action for one day on Tuesday 1 October.

The council has received official notification from the NASUWT and NUT that they both intend to take discontinuous industrial action, as part of a national on-going dispute regarding techers' pensions, pay and working conditions.

Parents are advised to check with their own school if they are unsure if it will open or close on the day.
