250-08 Summer events at your library

Do you think you might get bored during the long summer holiday? Fancy making a minute movie, drawing a strip cartoon, writing a gory story or building your own robot? These are just some of the exciting events you can take part in at a library near you this summer if you are 15-years-old or under.

At Bentilee Library you can write and perform a play in a day or learn how to make a minute movie or your own robot using library computers. At Longton Library you can learn how to write and perform rap, and produce your own rap CD to take home. You can also learn how to write and draw a strip cartoon. Learn how to write a gory story or make a minute movie at Fenton library and at Meir Library design and build a robot.

Book a place on to each of these events, with some needing adult supervision, by telephoning or going in to the library.

Don’t forget the Summer Reading Challenge either. This year’s is called Team Read and the theme is sporting activities. Each time you read a book you get a prize with anything from sweat bands to sport bags and vouchers for Dimensions on offer. Any child who completes the challenge by 5 September also goes in to the prize draw to win a bike.

Cllr Hazel Lyth, Stoke-on-Trent City Council portfolio holder for Enterprise and Culture, said: “The city libraries have a wealth of opportunities for summer activities to keep youngsters entertained.”
